Role-based Pay Uplifts

Role-based pay uplifts can be applied to costs to ensure rota cost estimates are more accurate when staff are performing additional pay duties.

What Are Pay Uplifts?

A pay uplift is an additional amount added to an employee’s base hourly rate when they perform a specific role. For example, a team member acting up as a supervisor during a shift might receive a slightly higher hourly rate for that period.

Role-based pay uplifts allow managers to assign roles to employees that automatically result in additional pay. This ensures accurate wage calculations without manual adjustments, improving both efficiency and profitability.

Enabling the Feature

Before assigning roles with pay uplifts, ensure the feature is enabled:

  1. Go to "Hello <First Name>" and then to Settings

  2. Navigate to Rota Settings

  3. Locate Apply Role-Based Pay Uplifts on Rota Costs

  4. Toggle the feature ON

Setting Up Roles with Pay Uplifts

  1. Go to Roles

  2. Select an existing role or click Create New Role

  3. Define the role name (e.g., Temporary Shift Supervisor)

  4. Set the Pay Uplift Type Fixed Amount (e.g., +£2 per hour)

  5. Save the role

Using Roles with Pay Uplifts

  1. Go to Rotas

  2. Apply the role when creating a new shift

  3. Apply or update the role when editing an existing shift

How Are Uplifts Calculated

  • The system detects the assigned role for each shift

  • It applies the defined uplift to the employee’s base rate

  • Adjusted pay is automatically included in wage cost estimates.

For example:

  • Base pay: £10/hour

  • Supervisor uplift: +£2/hour

  • Final base pay: £12/hour base cost for that shift
